Be a Blessing

March 3, 2011

It has been a long time. I have not had anything to say recently. Well, more accurately what I have been thinking about had no place on this blog. Last night we had our monthly Medical Mission and I was reminded again why we do what we do.

The organization we partner with Good Samaritan called and asked if they could do some video work with one of the people the ministry has helped. We said that would be fine. It was towards the end of the night and I immediately recognized the man they had selected.

He was a gentleman that came for help almost two years ago at our all day Back to School Medical Mission. It was nice to sit down and talk and find out how everything was going.

On that August day in 2009 he shared that he had no insurance because his job let him go because he had cancer. He came down with pneumonia and had nowhere to go. He found out about our ministry and came for assistance. Fortunately he shared his story on video that day and it became a part of what we put together to show what God has done.

We don’t always get to see these stories. We minister and try to do the right thing. There are good days and bad. Days when we see the harvest and others when we must believe it is to come. Last night was one of those when we get to see what God has done.

David is cancer free and will soon start a job that has medical insurance. He shared that he is going on a mission trip at the end of the month and that the church he attends now has its own medical ministry with Good Samaritan.

That is what it is all about. Being the hands and feet of Jesus. Showing people the nature of our God.

It’s neat to see how many testimonies start out with that Back To School mission. That’s where mine started. I, too, am so thankful you do what you do.

Truth: Had I not discovered New Heights, I would be divorced, in need/struggling, lonely, depressed, and really sick.

I’ll see what my new work schedule is like and I’ll let you know. I’ve asked off for Sundays, but I think they’re going to want me to work a few of them – at least while I’m learning.

It’s pretty amazing to see how God has turned our marriage around once we started applying things we’ve learned at church. We wanted to give our marriage a fighting chance before deciding to split up, so we went to a great (free) Christian marriage counselor in Tulsa but eventually had to stop going because we couldn’t afford the gas to go every week. It was at that time, I went to the B2S event and found your church. When we started attending Sunday services, it was amazing how the messages were exactly what we needed to save our marriage. (remember Ephesians?)
