One last number. One last percent. I am 100% sure we need to get back to basics. Simply putting new layers, new coats of paint on broken practices, isn’t going to work.

The continued attempt to recreate and fix tend to focus our attention on repair instead of people and kingdom.

In the Old Testament when God’s people get off track the answer is never become more creative, come up with the next big thing. It is a call to repent and get back to basics.

Think about that. Does the church need to repent? Do the numbers tell us we have anything to repent for?

Let me share some from Mark Oestreicher’s book Youth Ministry 3.0.

I am tired of doing the same old stuff. Why? IT ISN’T WORKING!!….This is how youth ministry has been done since its inception. It’s broken. And I don’t know how to fix it. What do we do in a postmodern, post-Christendom world?

We have a lot of questions. We spend time trying to figure it out but we really were never asked to figure it out. Jesus said follow me which seems to say keep your eyes open and I will get you where you need to go. Do what is set before you and do yourself a favor, stop chasing numbers.
