‘Tis The Season: To celebrate

December 10, 2009

Probably the best part of the year? A time to celebrate family. A time to celebrate life. A time to celebrate Jesus Christ.

Take time this Christmas to celebrate.
To party. To laugh and have fun.

Do we fill our plates with so much during the holidays that we forget?
Do times that should be fun end up frustrating because of expectations? I wonder if the puritan influence on our Christian faith doesn’t come into play here.

I understand there are dangers to celebrating. At times we humans get carried away, but still, we should celebrate.

We forget in the Exodus story God told his people to celebrate and to feast.

So beginning with the fifteenth day of the seventh month, after you have gathered the crops of the land, celebrate the festival to the LORD for seven days; the first day is a day of rest, and the eighth day also is a day of rest. Leviticus 23:39

Feasts like Pentecost and Booths were joyful celebrations. They enjoyed life and family and God. What Christmas should be.

So why do we pile on so much that we have no fun?
Why do we rack up so much debt that all we can think of is “can we afford it?”

As Christians we should know better. Take time, slow down, celebrate, Jesus Christ entered the world on your behalf, and he entered the world to establish that he is King.

That sounds like something worthy of celebration.
