Run the Race

May 5, 2009

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3

The race set out before us. At times it seems to me that we have lost sight of this fact. race22

We are here for a reason. Do we live as people running a race set out by God or do we look to God to bless our own personal race that we set out for ourselves?

It is to easy to give up or not even try when we don’t recognize we are on a race. How many children are raised in the church to understand they are on a race? We try to keep them out of trouble and keep them going to church. Both good things but they happen in the context of the race they are on.

I can not tell you how many times that the only reason I kept doing what I do was because I have a race to run, a purpose that is bigger then me that needs to be done.

Let me ask you this, are you running the race set before you by God? Are you at your current church because it is a part of your race or because you like what it has to offer? If you have children are you raising race runners or just good people? Sure we want our kids to be obedient but it should be obedience on the race.
