I Tolerate You

February 18, 2009

What do you think? Sound good? Do you have people that you tolerate? People that when you aren’t around them you want to say all kinds of bad things about them? Come one, let’s be honest.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Matthew 5:43-48

So Gentiles do the same? They love the people that work with them and they like but what do they do to an enemy? How about us as believers? I read this text recently and all I could think about is how much love do I have.

One area ministry that we help is the Pregnancy Resource Center of Owasso. I recently did their logo and we have done video work as well. We also donate money to the work each month. Sounds great but I was thinking about this love your enemy thing and pray for those who persecute you. I can work with the pray for those who persecute you but what about the love part?

Would you take cookies to Planned Parenthood? Would I take cookies to Planned Parenthood? Would I say that I don’t agree with what they are doing but they matter? They are important? That I love them?

Protest? Picket? Argue with?

I don’t know. I don’t think I have spent much time thinking about loving my enemy, those I disagree with or don’t get along with.

How about you?
