How much perseverance exists in the church today? Do we even think we need it?

I struggle to persevere but how often is perseverance the key ingredient to a biblical story? I have been walking through the life of David and one item seems pretty clear as he was running for his life, he needed to persevere. Just because he was anointed king didn’t mean it all just fell into place and went smoothly.

He is certainly a key character in the unfolding story of God but where would the story be if he didn’t persevere?

Can you tell that I’m catching up on blog reading? I’ve been swamped…

I’ve struggled with this one. The congregation we are a part of has had some REALLY tough struggles. Michelle and I have thought about bailing more than once. We look around at the struggle, the bitterness of some and how hard things have been and we wonder why we stay. So far, we’ve persevered. I’m glad we have. Our congregation is smaller, but higher quality – more loving. Some people have bailed to go to more restrictive pastures but we now have a core group of people that want to stay, want to work, want to grow. So far perseverance has paid off.
