Ball Pit

December 8, 2007

You know those ball pits you see at McDonald’s? You remember the ones. There were all of those urban legends about syringes and stuff. Well the church down the street is renovating and they have this really cool computer generated video that shows all of the wonderful additions that they are adding to their facilities and you guessed it, they are going to have a ball pit. Well not just a ball pit because that would be pretty lame. They are going to have all kinds of tubes and fun and the kids will love it because nothing says I follow Jesus like a jungle gym with really colorful tubes.

Maybe your church building has a ball pit, ours doesn’t. I’m not sure how much one costs, I guess I could find out for you if you would like. I mean they are adding a really nice atrium where people can talk and build relationships and everything, probably so parents can talk while the kids play with the balls.

Anyway, have a great day, I just wanted to let you know the church building on the corner is adding a ball pit.

I remember always being the kid who got tagged by those things by all the other kids. 🙂

What about the urban legend about how the church the people and not the building? (insert sarcasm here)

Look, as long as churches are centered in and around their buildings, it will continue to be normal for them to make the facilities appealing to as many as possible. Attached gymnasiums are just ball pits for older kids.

It isn’t something that bugs me so much, as long as these things are being used to attract people to God through Jesus… not to just attract them to the church. You remember, we don’t add them to the church, God does. When it fails to be all about Him, then it becomes an earthly treasure.
