Timeless Tunes, Eternal God

August 31, 2007

Now that I have you thinking music, I would love your lyrical input.

Last year we had a series entitled Solid Gold or Solid Rock. We had some fun with music from the 80’s. This year we are doing a series Timeless Tunes, Eternal God. We will be looking at the music we love and the intersection between music and God in our culture.

So, I was just wondering what songs would you recommend for such a series? If you have already done something like this do you have a link to the messages? This was really well received last year. This year instead of contrasting the advice of music we are going to show where it supports God.

If you have any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

Francis Schaeffer wrote a ton about the intersection between art and spirituality, but it is a bit kludgy and philosophical.

NT Wright’s Simply Christian might help here, with how he encourages the reader to recognize beauty as an echo of God’s eternal voice.

Stairway to Heaven (Shows a loving)
Hiway to Hell (Shows how broad is the road that leads to distruction, all the many things that lead people down that road, addictions, sins, to hell)
Wake me up before you go, go (A Series On Divroce)
I still haven’t found what I’m looking for (Shows how people are seeking God and how God is the only one who can feel the whole in our lives. (Eccl. series).
